What to do with unread messages after a long absence

Post by warmweer » Mon Jul 01, 2019 7:53 pm

Since January I hardly had any time to follow the topic on phpBB.
Back now since approx. 2 weeks and struggling to read everything. I have no idea how many unread messages there were and only read selected topics in most (sub)forum) and then marked those (sub)forums as read (a feature which unfortunately is not present in the Ideas section so I had to look at each page to find unread posts - apparently there is still 1 but I can't find it).
Anyway, down to ± 650 unread posts in the Support forum.
How do the phpBB devotees cope with all those unread posts after an absence (of let's say at least 2 weeks)? Set a date and forget about everything before that date? Read only selected topics/forums/subscribed topics? other options?

In those cases I would just read the ones I've posted in (with a * on the icon) so see how they ended up and then draw a line and start afresh.

Those are actually the first ones I read, and that was something like 15 topics max. Eventually I'll probably just mark everything as read before the end of this week). Luckily my board isn't as active - I can stay away for 2 weeks and can catch up in a day easily.

I usually only go back a couple of days. anything older than that is either solved or the OP hasn't been back to ask for help.

True, I had never noticed that before but it surprised me how few topics are marked as Solved by the OP.

added on July 8: finally: no more unread messages
