How to reply to an older message with quoting (solved)

Post by Halfa » Tue Jul 16, 2019 3:29 am

Hi,
I'm still not sure this is the right place for my question as a poster not a phpBB administrator.

I want to reply to a post which is a few day old, but once I open the Post Reply window, I can't scroll back far enough to get to the message I want to respond to and extract a quote from.

All this is new to me so I don't know if I need to provide more information.

Is there any way to scroll further back in the forum?

Click the quote icon at the top of the message you want. That will automatically open the reply window with that message.

The preview pane is limited to what it is, not sure how many posts but likely whatever the display settings are for pagination of topics. The forum owner would need to either add extension for this if one is available or edit the code.

Quick tip for little known feature, you can highlight text in the preview pane and click the quote button for that post. Only the highlighted text will appear in the posting pane.

In addition to this. If you want to quote and reply to messages from different pages, just open 2 sessions of phpp.com, each with a (section of a) post you wnat toe quote in your reply, you can initiate a reply with quote from a post, select and copy the whole reply and then paste it in the other window (with your other reply). In this way you'll have 1 post with replies to (and quotes from) 2 different posts.

Sounds complicated but try it, it's alot easier than it sounds.
My board's not broken, it just went peculiar

Also, when you are replying, there is a Topic-Review section at the bottom of the page. You can scroll through previous posts and quote from there too.

I used two sessions and achieved what I wanted. Thanks.
