Curious, Is it possible....

Post by bubbathegimp » Sun Sep 29, 2019 12:17 am

or has anybody ever tried hosting a Spreadsheet viewable and modifiable by their registered users?
I'm doing a hobbyist electronics/swl/ham/ radio/electronics in general site, and was curious about possibly having something like a swl listeners database where users could input shortwave station names/times/frequency...maybe a scanner database later on, or maybe a transistor /tube substitution database later on if the site catches on.

This doesn't necessarily do what you want, but it's an option. Using this extension you can create tables. See screen shots.

This collaboration feature is built into MS Excel, as long as you are not talking about doing this through phpBB. See ... 24e46fb104 .This is called "co-authoring". Participating users would have to have Excel.

You could periodically attach the spreadsheet to a phpBB post so non-authoring users could view it. They would also need Excel or some program that can open Excel spreadsheets.

I'm not already aware of an existing system for hosting such a collaboration spreadsheet within the phpBB board itself, either.

If you're open to hosting it externally, Google Sheets (i.e. using Google Docs) would also be an intentionally online way for multiple users to collaborate on a single document. But it's not going to be based on their phpBB forum access, and presumably would require maintaining a Google account at least for editing.

There is PhpSreadsheet which I have used some features of within phpBB that has (at least in theory) the capabilities to make a spreadsheet but it would take quite a lot of work to make it into a useable extension.
