Bots as registered users in the online list

Post by Random American »

I know there are extensions out there that change this behavior, but why is it default that bots are counted as registered users in the online list? Why not just have a separate category for them in the online list on the bottom? They're different than the "registered users" many people think of, as they're not people.

Edit: Changed title for clarity.

you need them in a group so you can control them.
you can control what the bots can see and do with the group permissions/forum permissions etc.

Thanks for the attempt, but that wasn't my question. I'm not talking about the Bot user group or permissions. I'm talking about bots in the online list.

Phpbb boards display something like this at the bottom: "In total there are X users online :: X registered, X hidden and X guests (based on users active over the past 90 minutes)"

Contained in the "registered" count are bots as well as users like you and me.

It would make more sense to me to say something like "In total there are X users online :: X registered, X hidden, X bots and X guests (based on users active over the past 90 minutes)"

Why aren't they separated from human registered users?

Well, they are Registered users as opposed to Guests. They are identified as Bots in the listing of usernames. If it is important to you, you could request an extension.
