Post by Puntadelanza »

I'm facing the same problem.

You might want to read Blocking aggressive Chinese crawlers/scrapers/bots - John Large. It solved the problem for my boards. Make sure you read through the comments, there are updates to the recommended rules as new user-agent strings are detected.
But I'm not able to find: root .htaccess file
Where is located?

In the root of your board - the same place as config.php.

.htaccess files are usually hidden so you will need to change the configuration settings of your ftp client to display hidden files.

You DO NOT want to use the htaccess file to block countries. It will slow your site down.

If you don't want to deploy CIDRAM, then there is an extension that will block countries. I can't remember its name now. Someone here may know.

@Puntadelanza: Please start your own support topics in future, two issues are hardly ever the same, thanks.

Yes, some hosts don’t even allow uploading .htaccess as can be seen in this topic.

I would so ditch that asinine host faster than that lightning bolt hit the clock tower in Hill Valley the day Marty McFly went back to 1985.
