If I am going to be writing a long post I usually will just do it all in my text editor and then copy and paste to the posting text area. I have never seen a need to use the draft feature.
Me too👍🏼
Can you take us to some long post of yours? :)

I use the draft function very rarely, maybe 5 times a year...

If the draft function were removed, I wouldn't probably miss it

I do not believe that this feature will be removed, as a matter of fact has been refactored to be ready with phpBB 4.

The improvement will allow draft posts and PMs to be saved with attachments and formatting.

<snip>Out of curiosity I had a look at the drafts table in my database and was surprised to find 92 entries spanning seven years. Now on the basis that when a draft is posted it is deleted from the drafts table this would lead me to the conclusion that some members (55 in my case) do not understand and/or know how to use this feature.
From experience with my wifes board as well as my own I KNOW that many users hit "Save Draft" in error and then complain that their post has been deleted.

Certainly, the right must be granted.

The question of who is unable to use the function out of ignorance does not arise. Basically, the function has its meaning. In my opinion, whether it is used frequently or hardly, is not a measure of things.

Thank you that this feature does not seem to get lost and is being processed (file attachments). In my view, it would be a step backwards if it were abolished.

Anytime it would take me more than a minute to type a post, I type into notepad and copy from there.

I use it occasionally, coincidentally right now for another post.

I admit that I use mistreat drafts as a clipboard for cheap notes being saved on computer and read on another computer - I never used it to actually load a draft.

When I am on the road, this function is very useful. I save a few thoughts as a draft in a post and complete it at home. Even if not everyone uses this function often or even not at all, "Save Drafts" should remain. I can not imagine that it is so complex for the developers to always include the function drafts in a new forum version.
If everything is removed that I do not need myself, then there would be nothing left for others.

Just to be clear in this again, there are no plans to remove this feature. In fact, in newer versions we are planning to extend its functionalities. :)

I use the save draft feature occasionally on several phpBB boards. Please don't remove it or anything.

While it was not part of the question, I would like to emphasise the need for such means of preparing posts.
While the current provisions are close to minimum requirements, I would wish such feature with enhanced capabilities, like BBcodes, photos and other attachments.
Back to the initial question (however way too limited): Yes, I use it because there is nothing else, however I hate it due to its limitations.

55% of respondents have never used this feature. That's more than I thought, as I would think people would use it for complex and well thought out posts.
