just a little nudge...
people posting in the "wanted" forum are asking for paid help.
for those that offer paid help, telling the prospective customers they don't need it is not
very helpful..
luck,
robert

charging someone for services rendered when asked to, is a far cry from "stealing" their money.
If you need to have your car worked on would you expect the mechanic to do it for free?

I also help people for free a lot. I also will take a donation for my help when they are happy to do so.

This is an official phpBB support channel, it's not here to help people make money,
If there is a chance the person can get the advice needed to do the job themselves as a first resort rather than paying to fix free software, they should be told, it's the decent thing to do, especially as learning to update the forum themselves is something that will be beneficial to them in the longer term.

If you need dollars that bad, get yourself on OnlyFans, it's much easier than moaning because someone tried to help someone for free, you could even start charging for air.

It is here to help people with the operation of their phpBB forum. Some people want to learn how to do it themselves, and some want to pay someone to do it for them. As an open source project, we of course encourage people to learn the system and even contribute back to the community. However, none of that is mandatory, and we do not judge those whose expertise lies outside of technology and who would rather pay someone to maintain their forum. If this does not jive with your philosophy, I encourage you to stay in the other forums.

Of course, if someone asks for assistance with a matter that has a KB article, or a previous write-up of how to solve it, there's no problem with linking to that. But again, and I can't stress this enough, there is absolutely no problem with folks who want to pay for services rather than doing the work themselves.

There doesn't seem to be much to discuss, I didn't think that a simple answer from me to such a simple problem to solve could cause so much uproar to the point of seeing the topic split. Guys, I understand that the moment we are living in may have caused and still causes problems of various kinds but please calm down. No one was killed, there are no crimes to prosecute.

Marco, your initial post really wasn't the problem, but the remainder of the replies, particularly the one about "stealing" people's money and the comment about OnlyFans, are completely unnecessary.

This particular forum was created - after nearly 2 decades of not having it - because users kept asking for it to exist. To reiterate what I said above: we offer free support, and we encourage users to make use of that free support, however we do not admonish those who wish to make use of this forum.

Hi Yuriy,
yes, of course, nothing to argue with that.

Just a note on the word "steal" that I used between commas, which suggests (at least according to the grammar of my home country) not to take it literally but almost as a euphemism. There was not IMHO really the need to reply.

Now looking at the topic of origin again, I visited the site and drew my own conclusions.

Since this is a commercial site they should pay also if it is a very simple issue, this is a mistake that I should have avoided, usually I visit the site first and then I draw my conclusions.

I personally use this forum often, it has brought us beautiful work to do and created a very good monetary income, I'm certainly not the type to back out on money, but with reasonableness and common sense.

Neither side is wrong. Being paid for services by a willing customer is usually not morally wrong, but neither is telling a potential customer about a free option.

This community has great contributors who devote lot of time to solve the issues.
Some of the users expect instant solutions & seek support (in a frustrated mood !)

Wanted section is for getting support at a price. Yet, one might offer free support.
Others need not condemn the service providers who responded to the paid offers.

If time permits,
any contributor can provide direct help without looking for money.

Who is stopping volunteers providing the free support ?

Actually a couple of Staff should try to provide direct help without payment.
