'Sorry, search couldn't be performed'

Post by Siguza »

Hi,

When I go to someone's profile with more than 25'000 posts, and click show user's posts and go to the last page, it says 'Sorry, search couldn't be performed. More information may be available in the error log'.

Note that this happens on the phpBB website, so I can't search the error logs.

Thanks

I am now inactive. I might read posts from time to time, however I will very rarely create or reply to a topic.

This happens to me too. It's interesting, but it doesn't strike me as that big of a problem, as I have no reason to go dig through the old posts.

I have always found the search system on this site to be a bit spotty.

The staff expects people to create a ticket for the project "Website". Moderators rarely communicate topics created here as potential bug reports to those who're responsible, let alone read all topics.

It seems to occur for every search request beyond start 19985, unrelated to the post's author or post order:
  • Lumpy Burgertushie
  • KevC
  • Even for RMcGirr83 who has just over 21k posts (and not 25k+) and the results start is off already increasing it by 1 gives the same error message.
However, I'm not sure if this is a problem of phpbb.com or a bug of phpBB. See screenshot.

Thanks. Did you create a ticket? If not, I think I might be able to create it.

Edit: I'm making a ticket now.

Edit2: https://tracker.phpbb.com/browse/WEBSITE-1396
I hope I did this right.

Looks good. On an outdated 3.0 installation this problem does not occur. 19985 is also no common/magical number for an upper limit of anything.

On the following installations this problem does not occur, too: ...which means it's really "only" a phpbb.com problem (implying the other boards have up-to-date versions).

It is a configuration issue with our search index. It has been for a long time, we simply haven't had the time for it to fix (And it doesn't have much priority)

The upper limit is actually 20k as there are 15 posts displayed :).

Thanks Paul.

What a low priority indeed. :)

Thanks everyone.

Yes, even I admitted it was a low priority. That's why I marked it as "minor" in the tracker. I'm not trying to rush anybody.
