phpBB-4 Development Version Download?

Post by Random American »

I know that phpBB4 is in development and isn't supported, but if I'm not mistaken, there is a development version being run in Area51. Is there a way to download this development version? I want to set it up on a test board.

Thanks.

Nightly builds can be found under the "Continuous Integration" section at Area51: https://area51.phpbb.com/

https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb

But bear in mind that you will need to run Composer in order to make it work.

As far as I am aware the dev version of phpBB 4 is nowhere near stable.

I got it from the above link. I don't recall running composer, and getting it to run was a pain in the ass, but it seems to be working now, even though the database didn't update. All in all, it's a test board, it's not like I'm using it to build a community. I installed phpBB 3.3.1 and used an update package in the link above to get to phpBB4. I can see why it's a Dev version just from how difficult it was to install, and how install errors are difficult to correct.

That's why I never even try dev versions. I usually wait until a version is EOL before testing it,assuming that all glitches will have been ironed out by then. 8-)
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I know, but I wanted to see how the phpBB4 project was going, even if the end result was unstable. There's only so much access I have to area51 as you know. I set up a test board hosted on a free host, so it's not like I sacrificed much other than a few hours of my time setting it up. I'm trying to learn more about phpBB as a whole to become a better part of this community and I think it was worth it.
