Administrator permissions for one particular forum

Post by TheJay »

Hello there, I have a section of the forum that I want someone else to manage.

I'm looking for selective administrator permissions for a particular section based on users in a particular group. Is it possible to restrict administrator permissions to a particular part of the forum for a particular set of users?

Thank you for your help.

Admin permissions are global, not by forum.
What are you want those users to do?

That's what I thought but not what I wanted to hear.

I would like someone to be able to create, modify, move and delete topics, forums and links within a particular part of the forum.

Moving topics is a moderator permission.
It wouldn't make sense to attach a "can create a forum" permission to a forum, because it would have to exist already before you could attach the permission to it.

How about the ability to create sub-forums, categories and links?

That would be a global permission

I can't believe that no-one else needs this functionality. If a board is large enough, it needs different people managing different areas and I'm happy for someone to take charge of a particular area so I don't have to create, modify, move or remove forums, topics or links myself.

It would be great if a local permission existed for a group.

As I said, moving topics is a moderator permission.

You shouldn't be creating so many forums you need to delegate creating new ones. Permissions are already a nightmare when there are alot of forums. I cannot imagine adding forum-based admin permissions too.

Talking of permissions being a nightmare when lots of forums are involved, it would be fantastic is there were a tickbox and a "select all" button to update all or several selected instead of going through individually.

That's why you should not assign permissions directly to forums, but assign permission to a role, and set that role to a forum. When you update the permissions for the role, all forums will directly use that.

So when forum set to unassigned, only need to control permissions and access via group permissions?
