[SPLIT] Re-check Extensions Version issue

Post by alex75 »

Hi guys.
I have the same problem.
All extensions that use a version control file hosted on my site, can no longer reach it.

Reason: Split from https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=2542161 which is two years old

works on my side.
IIRC you'll only get green or red for extensions in the CDB (I have 2 personal extensions that stay grey, and viglink also stays grey ).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Not always true - if the extension developer has a link in the composer.json file to a version file hosted somewhere that is accessible (as mine are) then it will turn green/red

Remember: You only know what you know and - you don't know what you don't know!

I now no longer support any of my extensions but they will start to become available here

Didn't know that and since I don't trust you ;-), I edited my composer.json and added the "version_check" (locally) and by God!: it works. (learn something new every day) >>> 1 step nearer to submission (still about 100 to go)

I think you mean that the Version Check of the Extensions that you have written no longer works.

If that is correct it is a problem I had many years ago with one of the 'less good' hosts I was with. Checks within the same hosting always failed, but other people could check without any problem.

Give me an example of a failure and I will check it for you from here

Yes, right. now that you told me, i moved the "Versioncheck" folder to another host. after i changed the pointing in the composer.json of the extension, everything works. I will open a ticket to my host. Thanks

Glad you found the issue.

I hope you have more luck with your hosts that I did. In the end they were so useless in support that I moved to someone who knew what they were talking about.

Assuming that was directed at me ;-)
That's tutorial_advanced: my level (in extension development) would be "starting beginner in the exploratory phase". ;) ( status I assigned to myself when phpBB 3.2 was released and have successfully maintained all these years)

I host all the JSON files dedicated to version-checking our extensions on GitHub, in a dedicated repository. This avoids any present and future problems.
🆓 Free support for our extensions also provided here: phpBB Studio

I tried your suggestion.
the file appears to be accessible and readable by the browser: https://phpbb-store.github.io/version_c ... sions.json
however the extension composer file does not reach it.
probably something wrong in the address:

Code: Select all

"version-check": {
         "host": "phpbb-store.github.io",
         "directory": "/version_check",
         "filename": "/backgroundheader__versions.json"
      }

not sure if it matters but try adding "ssl": true like below
*also you don't need a forward slash before backgroundheader__versions.json see the link Steve posted

Code: Select all

"version-check": {
         "host": "phpbb-store.github.io",
         "directory": "/version_check",
         "filename": "backgroundheader__versions.json",
         "ssl": true
      }

Thanks for the reply.
-Even without "/" it doesn't work.

-Adding "ssl": true or "ssl": false, the extension no longer works.
