Bots registering?

Post by jeevan25 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 10:10 pm

My forum is located at [link removed] However I have found a problem now. I am not asking for any support as I am just doing it to learn phpBB 3. Anyways the problems, about 51 bots have been registered on my forum. Is this normal to phpBB3? Sorry if this has been answered before because I couldn't find anything like this when I searched.

Are they search engine bots?
There are about 51 search engine bots installed by default on phpbb3 :D

I know the bots but I wasn't sure if phpBB by default installed them. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes, they're all there by default. This way, when they crawl your site, phpBB automatically detects this and stops them from creating hundreds of sessions, which happened in phpBB 2.0.x and could easily eat up tons of bandwidth.

does this also let them read the forum? for example, right now my forum is locked only to registered members, hence, search engines can't read the content. is this fixed with these bots being predefined?

you have to set permissions specifically for the bot usergroup if you want to control what they see and dont :)
