phpBB3 relatively safe to use?

Post by JordanWB » Fri Apr 06, 2007 4:56 pm

I was wondering if it would be safe to use phpBB3 for a live site. I compared the look of phpBB2 and 3 and I like phpBB3 better.

There are no security holes that I know of, but regardless, do not use phpBB3 Beta or CVS live. Wait until RC1. ;)

Personally I'd wait for phpBB :)
The mods and support you get is second to none - much better than some of the paid-for programmes.

comparison topics are not allowed here so lets not go down that road please, you use which ever you feel is right for you, but here nearly everyone is a phpBB fan and will tell you phpBB is the better choice, and another vendors site it will be the reverse, such comparison topics usually turn into flame wars and are best avoided :)

Sorry I forgot to add (in case you don't know) you can use phpBB2 now and upgrade to 3 when RC1 is released easily. That way you can get a forum up right now but still be able to use phpBB3 later.

SMF may be free in some sense. But it's not GPL free like phpBB is.

I am going to close this as the original poster has had a satisfactory response and I really do not want this turning into a SMF Vs phpBB topic :)
