Using Phpbb as an backend of my homepage?

Post by newbie1111 » Sat Apr 14, 2007 8:40 pm

I want to use phpbb to realize the following functionality, and I am not sure how difficult it is. Please give me some suggestion, thanks a lot.

I want to have several entries (like a url link), when a visitor click an entry, he can basically see a phpbb thread for a discussion and he can reply/view etc. This sounds something like the comments functionality on space.msn.com to us. Yes, it's something like that; but no, I want to have a dedicated page to show the related discussion.

e.g., my homepage has an entry:

"I like Charlie's speech on 4/12" (and this is a link, when a visitor clicks, he can read/reply. after he click, he should see a thread dedicated to this discussion)

Thanks again.

Hey Newbie,

Are you talking about using phpBB2 or phpBB3 as the backend?
If you're asking about phpBB2, you posted in the wrong section.
If you're asking about phpBB3, this thread will most likely get lockinated by the lockinator since phpBB3 is still in Beta stage and running phpBB3 in a live environment and modding phpBB3 is not currently supported until phpBB3 reaches the RC stage.

Portals provide the functionality you speak of.

Portals are not provided here, but feel free to google for phpBB portals. There is also a list of portals in an article in the knowledge base (its down atm).

The most popular is probably ezPortal, by smartor.

Note that most phpBB portals currently only work with phpBB2, those that will work with phpBB3 are mostly in beta stages, or haven't begun development yet.
