I'd also like to give a big THANKS! to the team... I've successfully converted my 2.0.20 board to RC1 without a problem. It's been a long couple years, but it was definetly worth the wait!!

Thanks again!

Im confused.
Is this release 'ok' to use now?
On the download page it still said 'unstable' release, so is it going to work if I convert now?

Also, how does it work when it converts the forum?
Can this be undone or do I have to reinstall the Version 2 if something goes wrong ?

Yes and it is fully supported

Compared to the beta versions it is stable but as it is only a Release Candidate no guarantees can be given about its stability. If you read these forums you will see that there are many users using RC1 in a live situation without any major problems.

When you install phpbb3 you will install it in its own database. When you run the converter it will copy data from your phpbb2 database and load it in the appropriate tables in your phpbb3 database - leaving your phpbb2 database intact.

Not without a lot of manual effort.

thanks for the help, david :)

Well, I'll back up my database for the old version first and try it.

hmmm, what about if I have an existing phpbb2 forum and want to upgrade it in its current domain and not change any directories or anthing?

I have my 2 forums set up in their own subdomains and would like to keep them like that.

interesting.

I set up the phpbb3 in its own subdomain, installed and when I converted my debate forum, it didnt bother the existing forum at all, thank goodness, but it did really screw up a LOT of the text in the phpbb3 forum.

Such as the orginal word in the phpbb2 forum was'

didn’t

was converted to;

didn’t

it seems to have really done this a lot in a thread or two.
Any ideas?

I cannot believe that phpbb 3.0 is free!

Post by Osama3bbas » Sun Jun 24, 2007 7:17 am

Greetings!

I've just installed phpBB 3.0.RC1.

I found this version wonderful!

My English is very bad. I cannot found the words I praise this version with!

I'll try to translation this version into Arabic.

Thank YOU So Much.

I Love phpBB 3.0

Post by antec » Sun Jun 24, 2007 1:17 pm

I love phpbb 3.0 its so much better than 2.0.

All the admin functions are great!

Its cool how you can allow the crawlers on your site when guests can not view it.

Thanks phpBB for the free site :D

Updating to 3.0.RC2 from RC1 was really easy using the full install instructions. It took less than 5 minutes.
I hope it stays this easy :D

:)

Very nice software I personally love it.

The work put into this is amazing, and I think everyone who contributed should be praised highly.
How about no complaining about bugs for the next few days, as a reward? :P
