Just to note, I used PowerGramo to record the Skype conversations. To edit, I used Adobe Audition 2.0. :) But for the average person wanting to do sound editing, I'd largely recommend Audacity, which is free and OSS. :)

Highway of Life wrote:The Server requirements is just like hosting any other audio file on your server. If you have a lot of traffic or bandwidth restrictions, obviously you’re going to need a more powerful and dedicated hosting space, such as Clustered Hosting, Virtual Private Server, or Dedicated Server.

You do have to remember that podcast episodes tend to be quite large, since they are on average 35 - 70 minutes of length, they can eat up your bandwidth really fast, so unless you deliver to a small number of folks, you are going to have to watch your bandwidth and keep it in mind for the server hosting plan that you have or plan to get.
thanks about that, and how about vidcasting ? is it possible?

Vidcasting is possible, but not for us I'm afraid.

Not sure I understand what you are getting at or the question here. podcasting is not quite like vidcasting, and ATM we don’t have any immediate plans to do vidcasting, even though (I’m certain) the server could handle it.

No, you would only put tools like ffmpeg on a server if you plan on using the server resources to encode, edit, and so on. But since the video would already be encoded and edited when you download, there is no reason to have those types of tools on a server.

phpBB won't be creating anything related to video streaming. ;)

Thanks so much for bringing back the phpbb podcast! Its nice to beable to put voices to the team members.

I was listening to the latest phpBB Weekly and was actually kinda excited that you were going to talk about template parsing, etc. And then it turned out to be fairly short. Could you possibly talk more about how templates are parsed and maybe any tips/tricks that style authors might not know. Maybe any features that an author can include in their style that might not actually be used in either subsilver or prosilver and not know about. In the styles that I make I scour both subsilver and prosilver to make the best possible style I can, but I'm sure theres something that isn't being used yet in either of the two. So that would make a great topic to talk about.

Hi,
First off, great to hear you guys have a podcast now :)
only slight suggestion with it, being a dial up user (yes i know veryyyyyy old stuff there!) just to save downloading 32mb or so on as it takes agessss XD,
would it be possiable to maybe split the Podcast into segments of files so like eposide_1_topic_1 etc or something and still have one streaming cast, and it may be helpful for listeners who want to hear about that particular topic...
cheers

Yay for overnight downloading. ^^
Seriously though, why not grab a faster connection? so many good options out there that rival the price of dial up.

Well, instead of downloading the entire thing why not just play it from the website? Then you listen to it as it downloads..

Only problem is that he would have to keep his browser window open for the entire duration of the download, which is... how many hours? :?
