It's not unlikely that there will be patches for 3.0.x in the future, so there might be a 3.0.2, 3.0.4 etc. before 3.2.0.
It actually is likely there will be revisions released in the future, some changes, bug fixes, enhancements and improvements, etc.
It will also start at 3.0.1 and go up from there, the 3.2.x line (3.1.x while in development), however, will be much more radical changes.
One big thing that will be different in 3.0 as opposed to 2.0 is how they will be released. The Development Team has stated that each revision will go through an RC stage to ensure that it is stable prior to releasing to the public, there will be a much better stability in each of the revisions which should decrease the number of revisions that 3.0 would go through.
