anti spammer question

The only way to stop spammers in php2 was textual confirmation add on.

Does php3 have something like that built into it???

Right now the CAPTCHA has not been broken. If it is broken, you can tweak it via the ACP, or can create a mandatory custom profile field (which will stop bots from joining as they won't be programmed to fill in the field).

thank you very much.

I was holding back on upgrading to PHPBB3 until textual confirmation worked with it.. but from the sounds of things I d o not need textual confirmation anymore.

Thanks !!!

After installing the RAC MOD I get 0% spammers registered now as opposed to about 40 per week.

What is the RAC MOD ?

Are you saying that you were getting 40 spammers a week with PHPBB3 with a custom field and captcha being used??

I also wanted a textual confirmation for phpBB3, and since none existed I decided to write one: Prime CAPTCHA

How can bots post? You would think creating an account and posting are 2 entirely
different things.

No they are the same thing....it is simply submit the correct values to the script which processes the form, unless there is some sort of security (which phpBB3 has) the script will have no idea of knowing that the values came from the proper forum or submitted by another script (bot)
