Change link for "FAQ" button

Post by PELP » Mon Jun 19, 2017 9:27 am

I am webmaster on a site owned by DFAC - Danmarks Frie AutoCampere which is a Danish club for motorhome owners. Our board is on www.fritforum.dfac.dk. It runs on phpBB3 3.1.6 using a slightly modified we-universal style.
Almost all club activities, amongst them our general assembly, are internet based, and this presents itself as a challenge for some of our members. Because of that, I have created a number of "HowTo"s with numerous screenshots where I take folks through the different funktions of the board step by step. They are alle posted in a separate subforum on our board.
My question is: How do I change the embedded link of the FAQ button so it links to that subforum instead of faq.php? A lot of our members find faq.php too technical.

I see you're using the we_universal style, so I'll adapt the instructions to that style. If you're using another style than the one guests see, instructions would probably be very similar too. :)

Open: styles/we_universal/template/navbar_header.html
Find:

Code: Select all

<li><a href="{U_FAQ}" rel="help" title="{L_FAQ_EXPLAIN}" role="menuitem">{L_FAQ}</a></li>
Replace the U_FAQ with the link where you'd like to have the button point.
Afterwards, be sure to purge the cache on the front page of the ACP for the changes to take effect.

Thanks very much. I had a feeling that was it, but I was quite uncertain. So that´s my next "project". Quite a small one.

I jumped the gun here a bit.

The link works - no problem there. It goes to the right place. But, even though I am logged into the board when i klick the FAQ button, i am asked to log in again. This happens every time.
The link I am following (this is on my testboard www.pelp.dk/fritforum) is http://pelp.dk/fritforum/viewforum.php? ... a11cb12af2

Any suggestions?

You have to remove the sid part, link should just be http://pelp.dk/fritforum/viewforum.php?f=230

I´m afraid that that did not do the trick. The link still goes to where it should, but it still demands a login. I´ve tried it on my live board as well, and the result is the same.

When you get a login request during normal use then quite often it is a cookie issue.

I´ve thought of that. I´ve tried different browsers and cleared cookies. Same result.

That's not it, it's that your cookie settings in your ACP are set incorrectly.
They are using another domain name, probably an old one that you used before.

See this article for suggestions: Fixing incorrect cookie settings

Check your cookie settings for Cookie domain, it shows .fritforum.dfac.dk and it should be fritforum.dfac.dk, no dot at the beginning, following Knowledge Base - Fixing incorrect cookie settings.

Thanks for your help. That seems to do the trick. I´ve got it working on the test board so I guess that I kan get it to work on the live board too. That´s the one that you have looked at and showed me what to do. The test board is different, but I have got the idea.
Great help in here.
