custom field on index

Is there any way of including a custom field, such as first and last name, on the index page? I've tried several different options of including custom fields but nothing seems to be working.

Where do you want the custom field on the index page?

Can you give a example from the code you tried and did you purge the cache after the change?

Yes on the purge. No on the examples. I went through google and used a bunch of different ones. {postrow.VALUE} i think? Or something like that
