Submit_post in Posting.php

Post by radyk » Thu Feb 08, 2018 5:15 pm

I am trying to understand message posting. Am I correct that the only place a message is posted is from posting.php and specifically the one statement:

$redirect_url = submit_post($mode, $post_data['post_subject'], $post_author_name, $post_data['topic_type'], $poll, $data, $update_message, ($update_message || $update_subject) ? true : false);

As a test right before the statement I have modified the 'message' using the statement:

$data['message'] = $data['message'] . ' ' . '~';

So basically I am adding a tild after each message. On my board, sometimes the tild is added (about +90% of the time) and other times it is not. Can someone enlighten me as to why this is the situation? Are there other locations where submit_post is being called?

No, it's the only place in that file where posts are submitted (hence the function's name). Submitting private messages use a different function.

You need to set $update_message accordingly, don't you think?

No. Get a text editor which is capable of searching thru files and then just search for that function's name - it should give you only one match that actually makes use of this function.
