'Search Members Posts' Question

Post by paulie » Sat Nov 17, 2018 8:40 pm

When you 'Search Members Posts' from their profile page, the results come back and show the first 100 or so characters form the posts they made in any particular topic.

Is it possible to show more characters of the post they made or possibly even the full post itself with a file edit?

Thanks in advance.

Looks like it's controlled by this line:

Just append &ch=-1 to the URI, like this.

Worked an absolute treat so thank you very much.

I do however have a follow up question:

Appending the search as you suggested works great, it shows the complete post made by that member. But it shows the complete post made even on Topics that have been deleted. How can this be? If the Topic really doesn't exist, how can it show what was posted? It must be drawing that post from somewhere so is it possible to somehow 'Restore' the full Topic that is showing as 'The requested topic no longer exists' how it originally was?

The deleted Topic must be lurking somewhere for the search to show the full Member posts that were made in it.

Hope I got that question across correctly and it made sense!

You sure it isn't quoted? Search uses the same database tables as viewing a post does.

Definitely isn't quoted, 100%. When you search Members posts that they made in topics that return as 'deleted' or "no longer exist", it even shows when the member was 'quoted' and they replied to that quote (if you see what I mean!). It shows the full post even the full quotes of other Members.

Posts can be re-assigned to other topics, thru merge or split - that way a post can still exist without its original topic. Each displayed search result also comes with both links to the post (unbound to its topic) and to the topic (unbound to the post). If either of them results in a "topic not found" page your data is inconsistent.

Thank you, a great help so far. So is there any way I can restore the original Topic given that the information - full posts - is still lurking there (somewhere) for the Topic deemed as 'not existing'?

I have done a 'Re-Synch' on a Forum by Forum basis and it still shows the same.

Not really. Also, that is a support request - create a new appropriate topic. Best would be to link examples and narrow down since when you have the problem. Of course: fill out the Support Request Template.
