Notifications by email - where are they in database?

In the user profile it is possible to set how to be informed about each type of notification (on the forum and by email). In what table are these settings stored? This is not in phpbb_users.

Why I need it?
Many people set up notifications by email and later stop looking at the forum. Now forum sends a large number of unnecessary emails and now is on spam list. Unfortunately, it is not possible for the administrator to change these settings globally and I need change them in the database.

Have a look at Changing user options defaults and values. It is for 3.0 but should get you started.
Also there's an extension being developed [3.2][RC] New User Default Settings

This extension will not do what the OP is asking for - it only works on new registrations, whereas the OP wants to be able to change the settings for existing registrations (something that personally should not be done)

In this situation, and if it was my board, then I would make these users non active.

I wasn't giving a solution to the OP, just 2 links with which the OP could get a good grip on how notifications are stored in the database, specifically in reply to :

there is no table with the title of user_notifications. sorry about the mistake.
there is one titled user_options. that includes the notification settings the user has set for themselves.

I have not idea how you would do what you want with the info in that table and personally it seems like a lot of trouble to solve your problem that way.
also, I assume there are many many other board users that have this same situation without it causing the problems you are describing so I wonder if there is something else causing it.
luck,
robert
