Any SMF2 to phpbb converters?

Post by Gamer82 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:51 am

I am currently using SMF2.0 beta3.1 - is there any converters to phpbb at the moment?

This was written for SMF 2.0 beta 3.0. I haven't looked at beta 3.1 yet, but I am guessing this will work.

You need to have the phpBB3 install directory as originally uploaded when you installed phpbB3.
You upload the files I have given you to the phpBB3 root directory maintaining the directory structure in the zip file.
You install phpBB3. After the install, click the convert tab at the top of the page. If you have already installed, go to {phpBB3_root_directory}/install/index.php and click the convert tab. The SMF convertor should display in the list of convertors.

Thanks I am unable to get past the board path when I'm almost sure its valid

"/home/clandis/www"

Thats what it says in my SMF admin panel and FTP. Would it be something else?

The converter is asking for the relative path from phpBB3 to your old board's files. So, - for instance - if the old board is located at http://www.yourdomain.com/forum and the phpBB3 installation is located at http://www.yourdomain.com/phpBB3, then the correct value would be ../forum.

You will have to install phpBB3 in a subdirectory to do the conversion. After the conversion is done, you move SMF to a subdirectory if you want to keep the files for a while and move phpBB3 to the root directory.

Do you have to change something to make the forum work if you change it to the root directory? I want to do the same thing and want to make sure that when I move my phpbb3 forum to the root directory that everything is linked properly.

No, you don't have to change anything when you move the forum to a different directory. It is a good idea, though, to change the script path in server settings when you do change.
