Thank you so much. You've been and continue to be incredibly helpful!

A couple things:
  • It's not necessary to PM users their new passwords. When they try to log into the new forum with their old password, they'll get a message: "It was not possible to convert your password when updating this bulletin board’s software. Please request a new password. If you continue to have problems please contact the Board Administrator." As long as their e-mail address on file is valid, they can use that link to get a new one. I think that's sufficient (assuming it works -- I haven't tested it quite yet :P ).
  • It would be awesome if you could set it up so that absolute URLs that pointed to something in the old forum (e.g. http:// myboard.47.forumer.com/whatever.php) could be auto-converted during the crawl to point to the new forum or just a relative URL. Forumer has a policy against redirects. If this is too much work/not possible, I understand completely.
OK, now I'm gonna go test the crawl for subforums :D

One of the forthcoming features that I plan to add is a feature to convert local automatic links (e.g. http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1761395) to local links on the new forum. This unfortunately doesn't catch all cases where a local link can occur; I suspect the rest can be handled through simple find-and-replace since Forumer uses the same URL structure.

In order to reset their passwords, the email addresses must be converted, so you'll need admin privileges during the conversion.
Need a conversion from another forum, but they won't give you the database? Try a crawler converter. If your converter isn't listed, feel free to post in that thread to ask for one.

Yes, I'm just a moderator doing test runs. When it comes time for the real move, it'll be an admin.

As promised, here's a new version of the phpBB3 converter.

Changes:
Redid forum/subforum conversion; it should be more reliable, and it will now generate an exact copy of the forum structure (previously it would not convert categories correctly)
User and forum IDs are preserved, instead of being recalculated; this allows old links to viewforum.php and memberlist.php to continue to point at the right entities
Edited-by information is now converted
Internal automatic links in Forumer are converted to internal automatic links on the new board.

The screenshot shows a bunch of warnings; they aren't fatal.

Is the forum you are converting hosted by Forumer or by Forumotion? They are different services, and require different converters. To make it more confusing, Forumotion also operates dozens of different domain names.

From the screenshot, it looks like you might be converting a Forumotion forum; please try the Forumotion converter and let me know if that works.

is that problem in encoding ??

There is a chance that you may have found a bug in the SQL parser. Please examine your query closely, and check that the quotes are correct and not mis-matched. Other possible failure causes may be that you are uploading a file with binary outside of a quoted text area. You can also try your query on the MySQL command line interface. The MySQL server error output below, if there is any, may also help you in diagnosing the problem. If you still have problems or if the parser fails where the command line interface succeeds, please reduce your SQL query input to the single query that causes problems, and submit a bug report with the data chunk in the CUT section below:

You tried to upload a .rar file; phpMyAdmin only supports .zip and .tar.gz.

When the converter finishes running, it prints out the number of topics and posts converted. Are these values correct?

Apparently, for (some) non-english Forumotion boards, the correct encoding is utf-8, not latin1; try this and see if it imports correctly.

The admin user might not be in the right membergroup or rank; try reassigning the groups.
