Thanks for the reply. I did saw the page whose link you provided but the converter is only for RC1 and RC2. I also read posts of people who successfully converted from SMF 2 RC3 to PHPBB 3.0.7 PL1 but I also read many posts about errors faced by the people, which occured during the conversion.

So I want to make sure whether I may proceed or there are few precautions I need to take.

Thanks

You may proceed. There are no precautions necessary. The convertor does not change anything in the SMF so if something does not go quite right, the SMF board is still usable. The convertor can be run more than once if necessary.

EDIT : Got it and successfully converted. Now as my previous forum is in root, how do I make my phpBB forum as root.

My phpBB files are in folder named phpBB.

Thanks

Back up the SMF files and move all the phpBB3 files to the site root and your original address will still apply.

Before you move the files, go to the admin panel>server settings and change the script path to /

Hello, I tried to visit my phpBB forum. But its showing that forum is under the process of upgradation, check us back soon. Then I tried to log in via my admin account that I created during phpBB installation but its showing that board have been upgraded and hence I have to reset my password. Whats happening?

Thanks

This is one of two things:
1) Your board is set to Disabled. You can enable under Board Settings in the Administration Control panel.
2) The folder named install is in place. This folder needs to be deleted or moved or renamed.

Passwords do not need to be changed because of an upgrade. What is the exact wording?
Possibly you have the requirement set that the password needs to be set after a certain number of days. You can check in the Administration Control Panel under Security Settings -> Force password change.

I cannot access my ACP. The exact wordings are '' It was not possible to convert your password when updating this bulletin boards software. Please request a reset of password ''

Thanks

As long as the board is not disabled, you can request a new password on the login page with the "I forgot my password" link. You will be sent an email with a new password and a link to activate your account. Click the link to activate your account then you can use the password sent to you to login.

If your board is still disabled, go to MD5 Encryption Tool and enter your desired password.
Copy the MD5 hash.
Using phpMyAdmin go to the phpBB3 users table
Find the row with your username and edit the row
Enter the copied MD5 has intot he user_password field and Submit.
You should now be able to log in.

Got the reason for the problem. I was doing such a foolish thing. I was using the pass which I created with the phpBB installation. I forgot that I have to use pass of my SMF admin account. Username are same in both installation i.e SMF and phpBB so no worry regarding that.

The board is disabled as I have not deleted the install folder.

1 question. I have backed up my Database of SMF before I began the whole conversion process. I did the backup before even installing phpBB. Now should I delete all the smf files and move my phpBB files to the root?

Also should I deleted the MySQL db of smf?

Thanks

If you are satisfied that the conversion went well and the phpBB board is working fine, then you delete the SMF files and database.
