Ideas/Questions:

1. Is there any way to convert forum permissions?

2. Would it be possible to add a question during conversion to use old passwords and then have the converter replace the \includes\auth\auth_db.php file accordingly? This should cut down on end-user confusion as well as reduce outside-the-converter steps.

3. Lastly, is there any way to automate (or simplify) the pre-conversion process of converting the forum encoding to utf8?

I wish I knew php code so I could try and implement stuff myself. :|

Wow, it's great to see how helpful everyone is in assisting with this migration. I simply can't wait to give it a try once all the bugs are worked out. Thanks everyone!

re: BBCode URLs

I have noticed that URLs that use text are broken after converting. What I found was the URL code had quotes when it shouldn't. It looks like this is how the code is used in vB, but not in phpBB.

Example:
vB: [url="http:\\www.phpBB.com"]phpBB Site[/url]
phpBB: [url=http:\\www.phpBB.com]phpBB Site[/url]

Has anyone else had this problem?
If so, can anyone think of a way to find and correct all links (in posts, signatures, etc) and correct them during the conversion?

1. Not that I can see. phpBB's permissions seem to be more complicated in the db than vBulletin's. Will look at it though.

2. Yeah I'm sure that can be worked out.

3. Yep. Next version of Toolkit will have the ability along with the bbcode_reparse and eventually it'll go into the converter I reckon.

Yeah I had the same issue when converting. I'm not sure yet but I'd imagine there must be a way to do it.

Know that's not very much use as it's mostly "should be" and "maybe" but that's all I have for now :)

Do this before you run the text through the message parser

Code: Select all

$message = preg_replace( '/\[url=\"(.+?)\"]/si'           , "[url=\\1]"            , $message );

I am experiencing a problem after converting from vb version 3.6.8 .

The error is below.

Return to the index page
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

Can't DROP 'goodnees'; check that column/key exists [1091]

SQL

ALTER TABLE phpbb_topics DROP COLUMN goodnees

BACKTRACE

FILE: includes/db/mysql.php
LINE: 158
CALL: dbal_mysql->sql_error()

FILE: install/install_convert.php
LINE: 1104
CALL: dbal_mysql->sql_query()

FILE: install/install_convert.php
LINE: 203
CALL: install_convert->convert_data()

FILE: install/index.php
LINE: 402
CALL: install_convert->main()

FILE: install/index.php
LINE: 274
CALL: module->load()

I urgently need to know how to fix this error as I need this site up asap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

This is the old site http://www.utopianknights.com/ and this http://www.utopianknights.com/forum/ind ... 9f30addba2 is the new site. They have not converted properly so how can I fix it for phpBB 3 gold installation to be set up exactly the same way as the vb installation.

Please help.

Did you use the files from this post or from the first post? If first post, I would start from scratch and use the files from the post above as it contains fixes to several issues seen in the first release.

Even after you convert, it wont be setup exactly the same way. You will need to go thru your groups and set permissions accordingly.

:arrow: Dicky or Admins - Can we update the first post to link to the updated files to prevent confusion?

Where exactly does this need to be placed?

It needs to be placed in functions_vb30.php in function phpbb_prepare_message($message)

FIND

Code: Select all

$message = preg_replace('/\[email=(.*?)\](.*?)\[\/email\]/si', '[email]\\1[/email]', $message);
and add before.

Thanks! I will add this to the files and test this weekend.

I have a few other modifications to make to the files then AntiThesis will add some things that are missing.
