While the original conversion is working I'm trying to do this SS conversion and after the first settings and just when the conversion should start I get this message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function phpbb_set_encoding() in C:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\phpBB3\includes\functions_convert.php(1273) : eval()'d code on line 1

cputester,

I am not sure why you would be getting that error. function php_set_encoding is definitely in functions_SS_phpbb2_302.php on line 333.

Any problem with the encoding somewhere maybe?

There shouldn't be a problem with the encoding. This convertor uses the same encoding as the regular convertor.

Your error seems to be happening when the convertor is updating the config table. Again, I am not sure why. This convertor uses the same procedures as the regular convertor.

No, you don't need to do anything else.

I messed up the filenames. Rename convert_SS_phpbb20.php to convert_SS_phpbb20_302.php. Hopefully, that will solve your problem.

I am having a tough time converting from phpBB ver. 2 to phpBB ver 3.0.3

problem is the existing forum is on a different server than the new phpBB ver 3..

so my question is, will the convertor work converting to ver. 3.0.3 from ver. 2.0.23 and if so will it also work when each BBS is on a different server (one in MO and the other in UT)..??

thanks.. :)

The convertor has been updated to work with phpBB 3.0.3

The convertor will work if the phpBB2 database is on a different server. You will need to setup remote access, however, the phpBB2 board files do need to be on the same server as phpBB3.

Ndya,

I am not sure what you mean. phpBB3 already has the ability to create subforums. This topic is for the purpose of converting a phpBB2 board that has Simple Subforums installed and keeping the subforums intact. The standard phpBB convertor will convert the phpBB2 subforums to regular forums. This convertor keeps the subforums intact so avoiding the annoyance of having to recreate the subforums.
