Could not find path to your former board.

Converting from other board software? Good decision! Need help? Have a question about a convertor? Wish to offer a convertor package? Post here.

The challenge here is phpbb3 is computing the path from the actual location of the phpbb3 installation files.

I had phpbb3 in ~/work/phpbb3/phpBB3, symlinked to /var/www/phpbb3
I had phpbb2 in ~/work/neighbors/trunk, symlinked to /var/www/trunk

To get the converter to find phpbb2, I entered a relative path based on the ~/work/ directories, not the symlinked directories.

Make sure you also type you password in the database area otherwise you would get that error also.

Not necessarily.
If you have your new one in /forum/phpBB3 then you would need ../../forum. ;)

Basically the path is asking you where the 2x board is relative to where you are now in your 3x board.

.. means go back a directory
/name means go forwards into that folder.

So if you have 2x at site.com/forum and 3x at site.com/phpBB3 then indeed your path would be ../forum, meaning go back on to the site root and then forwards into /forum.

If you don't know what the path should be just post the links of the two installations and someone will tell you what you should add.

Check your site logs to find out what it didn't like.

What were you doing to get that error?
Your site cpanel should have an error log file. You should be able to look in that and find why it stopped.

I am having this same problem.

My paths are

http://www.mysite.com/forums (old board)
http://www.mysite.com/phpbb (new board)

(so we are not dealing with any sub roots)

I have tried

../forums
http://www.mysite.com/forums

Didnt work

I looked for index_convert.php and could not find the file. There is an "install_convert.php", but no mention of modpc.php anywhere in the file.

Please help - anyone? Buellar?

Same problem as so many. I admit ignorance of all of this - I did get the new board to install but cannot copy over (upgrade) from my 2.0.22 board.

Old board located at: http://www.mactavish.org/historygenealogy/
New board located at: http://www.mactavish.org/BB3

I've tried every combination that I can think of for the path to the old board
../historygenealogy
../../historygenealogy
../historygenealogy/
../../historygenealogy/

I know it has to be something ridiculously obvious to everyone else, but I've labored over this for hours and still can't get anywhere. Can someone help me before I go looking for a gun?

Thanks - I really want to get this upgrade done - it has so many nice enhancements.

Moira07,

../historygeneaology should be correct. You may be having a problem because of subdomains and redirects. Try going to your phpBB3 board with this address to see if it makes a difference, http://www.mactamhais.liquidweb.com/BB3 ... /index.php
Have you hugged someone today?

No, it didn't work either.

As far as I know, there are no subdomains and no redirects.

It LOOKS like it should work, but I get the same error no matter what. I even tried putting the entire address in for the location to the old database, but it didn't work either.

I tried including index.php in the address to the old database too - that didn't work either.

I can get to the new board install from either http://www.mactavish.org etc or http://www.mactamhais.liquidweb.com etc.

I've downloaded a full backup from the hosting control panel - but I don't think I can use it here........?

Stumped.

I've taken the phpBB3 board down and deleted it from the server.

I'm going to download a fresh copy and upload again. Maybe there was something scramble "in transmission."
