Help with BB version upgrade ??

Post by SimonQ »

Hello all - am looking for some support to update a well established auto specialist phpBB forum I'm helping ADMIN for.

Its currently running on 3.1.5 - but images aren't auto loading in each topic string (placeholders only) and unsurprisingly the community is becoming increasingly inactive.

Happy to do upgrade myself - if its straight-forward (have some good website mgmt /blog build experience and dont fear tech) - but also the community owners are happy to pay a going rate for a bone-fide phpBB expert to do backed-up upgrade to 3.3.3 - and get things running smoothly again.

Any input very gratefully received.

Kind regards - Simon Q

Upgrading to the latest version is as simple as following a set of instructions. If you have FTP access its an easy job to do and we can talk you through the whole process. If you want to proceed that way please start a topic on this forum and fill out the Support Request Template to give us the fullest information.

I do upgrades all the time. Upgrades are not always simple. Extensions and styles usually need to be updated. Sometimes custom style changes need to be redone too. Contact me if interested.

Hi, I might be looking at needing help with BB version upgrade myself. I have a version 3.0.14 phpbb forum with the Magic Forest theme on it that I got from somewhere a long while ago and don't remember when. It was recently throwing a lot of "[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/includes/bbcode.php on line 488: preg_replace(): The /e modifier is no longer supported, use preg_replace_callback instead" lines on the front page of it recently with a bunch of subSilver lines in the admin log. I had someone help me fix that for now, but it is looking like I may have to upgrade to a new version soon. However, I'm going to need help with doing that since I'm afraid doing so is going to break the Magic Forest theme the forum has.

If you updating your board you also have to update your style, there is no way to keep your old Magic Forest theme style.
Isn't there a Magic style for phpbb3.3.0?
Sorry! My English is bat ;) !!!

Nope, there is nothing in the Styles Database on here for Magic and I do not want to give up my Magic Forest theme. If I update the board, I may need someone to help me update the theme.

You do realise that there is something in the region of 25k code changes between 3.0.x and 3.3.x styles

Then you're in the correct forum but not in correct topic.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
