Post installation and config PHP debug issues

Post by bryanlvt »

Hi. I set up a new PHPBB3 install on my Ionos shared hosting environment. MySql 5.7, PHP 7.3. All was fine and the installation went without incident. I started configuration (logo, setting up initial forums etc) and for no apparent reason the error messages from php_debug started showing up at the top of the screen. Looks like two issues - fetching a MySql query result, and some difficulty with replacing headers? I'm stumped. I've set permissions to what I thought were the right ones, and looked in the functions.php file but nothing stands out (not that I'm a php expert by any means). Oh - I also can't login to the board at all now. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Lee

Errors do not occur for "no apparent reason" somebody somewhere has done something to cause them - and from this

it is most probably you.

There are several options:

1. Empty the cache folder aprt from .htaccess and index.htm
2. Check the server error logs to see if they give any more information as the debug error message is of no help.
3. Undo the changes that you have made.
4. Restore the backup that you made before making the changes.
5. As it is a new board - delete everything and re-install it.

2nd error:

When you looked at functions.php what did you open it with? It looks like there’s a BOM at the beginning of the file.

Knowledge Base - phpBB3 and UTF-8 without BOM

I originally opened it with TextEdit on my mac and saw nothing untoward (although I know enough to be dangerous). Tried it again with BBEdit and there seems to be no BOM. The encoding is set to no BOM. This is probably my ignorance showing, but I also didn't see a ?> php end tag on the file. Is that normal?

Either ways, I tried a completely fresh installation, and it seemed stable for a few days then today it started exhibiting the same behaviors again. Same error messages. Am I right in assuming it's 2 separate problems? One with MySqli and the other with the header outputs?

Any of you phpbb masters out there - sure could use some help.

Thanks,

Lee

First of disable then delete the style SUBSILVER ( https://community.bryanresearch.com/sty ... /style.cfg ) which is for 3.2.7.

Since it is a new install, once disabled/deleted that style you can enable the board with only prosilver so we can better investigate.

Also make sure if in the file ROOT/config.php the support for the db is exactly mySql(i) and not mySql.

$dbms = 'phpbb\\db\\driver\\mysqli';

So I logged on this morning and the issue had gone away by itself! I literally hadn't touched a thing in the back end since the error messages occurred yesterday and I left it for the evening. I did deactivate that Subsilver style and installed a 3.3.0. compatible one called Latte from the styles database. It seems to be working fine now. I would like to shrink my logo though, but I can't find the right place to specify a lower size in any of the .css files? You wouldn't happen to know which file I should be looking at would you?

Thanks,

Lee

Your best bet for the logo issue would be to post in Styles Support & Discussion.

Latte is supported here as per the CDB btw, and the answer is here: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styl ... pic/214821
