Trouble installing on fatcow.com

Post by Ragun Gardener »

This is a new host, new site and new install, I tried a few times but nothing happened so I had support download a new copy and install it and it still doesn't work. The chat person made a ticket and I'm waiting for the response.

Here's the site http://primecookingvideos.com/install/app.php

If neither you nor the hosting company can install phpBB then it sounds as if there is something wrong with the server setup

Did you check that your host meets the requirements to run phpBB 3.3? Are you putting the phpBB files in the root or in a subfolder? For example https://yourdomain.com or https://yourdomain.com/folder/ Presumably the videos and their index are in the root?

currently the install page is showing at your link. you should either finish installing it or remove the install folder before someone comes along and messes up your server etc.

by the way, you at least have php installed and running properly on the server or that page would not be working at all.

It still doesn't work, I get a blank page when I click install. The techs are still working on it. I think I need to find a new host.

your link above is to the domain name without https

when I click on the install tab from there it does not give me a blank page but the type of page that is just a search page that happens when the domain name is not working and/or te hosting is not setup etc.'

however, when I click on the install tab when I go using https in the url, it gives me a blank page as you said.

the usually means a php error and the answer should be in the server error logs.

if your host has not found the logs and/or has not solved it by now, you really do need to find a new host right away. get a refund from your current host if you can and move to a new one that knows what they are doing.

luck,
robert

I removed phpbb and installed wordpress this morning without a problem. That was a new host to test the tools but they apparently don't know anything about phpbb. I can't complain about the price for a test year, they gave me a lower price of $24. I'll see how it goes and decide if I want to keep that site there.

Thanks for all the help!!

You can find good host for less than 10$ so 24$ is not so cheap and if you can't use it for phpbb it looks like a very bad host to me

Give me a link to a host that makes a phpbb install easy PLEASE!!!

I have one forum that's busy and I had to hire a freelancer to install it on dreamhost where it is now. Then had to change the domain name due to copyright issues and it took them 3 days to get it going.

I signed up to try Fatcow and they have the same problem, they took 4 days of trying to get it installed.

It might be me but I find it hard to screw up a "One Click Install".

I just spent 3 hours on chat with dreamhost trying to fix their "one click install" and was told to submit a ticket and that means it'll be at least 3 days before it's up.

So PLEASE, tell me where to go, I need this running tonight.

You should follow these install procedures:

docs/INSTALL.html#install
Get the latest versions of my Digests and Smartfeed extensions.
Need phpBB services or a phpBB consultant? I offer most phpBB services.

Steer clear of host supplied one click installs, your host has already said they know nothing about phpBB so how are they going to support their one-click installer when it goes wrong? If the host meets the requirements phpBB will install in a few minutes. We cannot really recommend a host, but we do recommend that you visit WebHostingTalk.
