mysite.com/PVForum/install/app.php returns blank screen

Post by DK_123 »

https://mysite.com/PVForum/install/app.php returns blank screen

I'm doing the auto upgrade. phpBB 3.2.8 to 3.3.0 Update Package
I've done the auto upgrade before...no problem
This time when navigating to /install/app.php it returns a blank screen.

Also I just upgrade to PHP 7.2

??????

Thanks in advance

Please do not try the auto updater to upgrade to 3.3.0, as you have seen it does not work.

Please follow this guide to upgrade from 3.2.x to 3.3.x https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade32/

Thank you for your prompt reply.

"Please do not try the auto updater to upgrade to 3.3.0, as you have seen it does not work."

PHPbb is recommending the automatic upgrade and provides a zip file for same: phpBB 3.2.8 to 3.3.0 Update Package

I have a few custom things & logo files so this seem to be the recommended pathway. If I do a fresh install I'd have figure what I customized

So what do???????????

Code: Select all

[ Automatic Update Package ]
If updating from phpBB 3.1.x or 3.2.x then please see our guide for the recommended updating method.
I'ld prefer seeing the word "updating" here replaced by "upgrading" for clarity and the distinction.

Strictly speaking an autoupgrader doesn't exist, only an autoupdater which can be used when your board has custom edits. But even that cannot guarantee that custom code which functioned on a specific version, will also function on a higher version. That's an ever present risk one should accept (even with a minor version update).

Download a fresh copy of 3.2.8.
Use a directory compare program to compare that pristine 3.2.8 to your custom edited 3.2.8 in order to identify the edits.
And then apply those edits to the 3.2.0 (if the custom edits are compatible).
We should embrace problems, without which there wouldn't be any solutions.

It is not recommended but it works perfectly I did 10 boards with the autoupdater without any problems.

Did you edit the .htaccess maybe, that can give a blank screen.?
Sorry! My English is bat ;) !!!

For every success story there's a fail.
That's probably exaggerated but just looking at the support topics doesn't extend much confidence (when using it to upgrade).

Added: testing it on a localhost copy (before using it in a live situation) could help in avoiding headaches.

I am back to 3.2.8.

I tried phpBB-3.2.8_to_3.2.9.zip and had the same issue

I'm not at all technical ... my focus is users/members and their posts . So much of this above me

I've spent hours on this ....

Since 3.2.8 is back and working and I've run out of time .... I will wait and try again another time.

I really appreciate the suggestions. I'm sorry I'm not technical enough to really comprehend.... I was hoping the autoupdater would work transparently and as it has in the past.

My 3.2.8 working again. Since 3.2.9 or 3.3 is recommended I'll check back here later or tomorrow. I have a medial appointment that can't wait.

Right my 3.2.8 is working again.

Thanks again

If you can identify the "few" custom edits you made, it's probably not much work to apply those to 3.2.9, probably a bit more on 3.3.0 but there isn't any rush.
Your 3.2.8 won't suddenly break because of a new version being released and you can take all the time necessary to edit offline, and perhaps test your edit on a personal webserver- which BTW doesn't have a steep learning curve with usbwebserver, contrary to other (but more powerful) packages.
We should embrace problems, without which there wouldn't be any solutions.

What and where is tracker?

Your edit seems to suggest I don't need to do this. Or should I as well?

Thanks again
