cron in the bottom left corner

Post by Dysphoria »

Hey all,

I recently noticed there is a failed image icon with 'cron' written next to it in the bottom left corner of my board. What does this mean?

seems you are using the old .htaccess file.

The new should contain

Code: Select all

# Apache content negotation tries to interpret non-existent paths as files if
# MultiViews is enabled. This will however cause issues with paths containg
# dots, e.g. for the cron tasks
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
	Options -MultiViews
</IfModule>
to avoid this error. Add this to your .htaccess (root)

https://github.com/phpbb/phpbb/pull/5748/files

What exactly does the MultiViews Option
Webseite, Blog, Wiki Deutsche Übersetzungen - german language files
My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.

Hmm, isn't this the same?

Code: Select all

# Apache content negotation tries to interpret non-existent paths as files if
# MultiViews is enabled. This will however cause issues with paths containg
# dots, e.g. for the cron tasks
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
	Options -MultiViews
</IfModule>
Because that's what I found in my .htaccess file. Or do you mean another one?

Scanialady cited a recent phpBB 3.3.0-specific reason why you could be seeing this, and was the place to start for a phpBB 3.3.0 site. But like most things, there are multiple reasons you can get this kind of symptom. Anyone seeing this kind of symptom should check their PHP error long, since many times (including the new case for phpBB 3.3.0) there will be some kind of PHP execution error which led to the "broken" cron image.

But not in your case. 😁 Your web server is saying that app.php does not exist, and returns 404 for any attempt I've tried. Not just for https://talkatastic.be/app.php/cron, but also https://talkatastic.be/app.php/help/faq, and https://talkatastic.be/app.php/rules, etc.

So that's what I would look at next; is the app.php perhaps missing from the root of the phpBB installation. Of if it's still present, verify that it's a non-zero-length file with the correct phpBB 3.3.0 size and content. And if all that checks out, make sure that there isn't any intentionally modified or mis-firing rule in the .htaccess which is returning 404 on these app.php requests.
