how can the administrator add users to a forum

Post by ejbarbero »

Our college is going 100% online thanks to Corona. I teach sections with 100's of students. I am going need a forum to manage questions about what I teach (online), homework questions, with students and TA's participation. phpBB is deal for that, except I need to forcefully add the students to the forum. Otherwise, some will not register and will miss the discussion. At the end of the semester I take them out. I found this post# 2418076 but it is locked. Does anyone know if the add-on works with phpBB 3.3?
I am a long time user of BB's but a newbie setting it up. I just installed it on my own WinServer, but I am afraid to break it if I install the add on.

You can use the following extension to help you achieve what you are looking for:
https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... dd_user_2/

It apparently works with phpBB 3.3.

Thanks

No it doesn't. I installed "ACP Add User", tested adding my TA, he did not get the email. I added users with several email accounts I have for testing, Yahoo, Gmail, etc. no luck. no email.
This is very important for me. I have used it years ago when I had a forum. I forget what version that was. AddUSer I worked like a charm.

Should I go back to 3.2. Can I go back to 3.2 without loosing the database?

I see you’ve already posted in the support forum for the extension. That is the right place to get help wth the extension.

No, but you could use the database backup you made before updating from 3.2.

Have you checked the email spam folder as per https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... pic/212831?

It does work, I installed it on a fresh 3.3 install only last week. I’m going to mark this solved as the OP is/was posting in the extension forum.

Yes, it works, my bad. The problem was that the network recently started denying mail to be sent directly from PHP, which I guess is the default after installation, so I had to go to ACP > General > Email Settings > and setup SMPT. Fixed! Thank you for your patience.
