RANK IMAGE TYPE / SIZE

Post by chuckphd53 »

I have read some items on using the Rank Images..
and I can upload and and assign them properly..

but I noticed on this BBS, Like KevC has a very nice MODERATOR Rank Image
and I am not sure if this is a JPG or ICO type. It is very clear and precise.
I have made a couple JPGs and uploaded them for my rank images but they all seem
washed out and unclear around the edges as you do when you shrink a JPG...

what is the trick  to making a rank image similar to these on this BBS they are so nice...
also if you make them larger, can you specify the RANK Image size so it will not flow off the page ?

And should this image be a JPG, PNG, or other for best results...

thanks
Chuck

They are fairly large png files
images/ranks/team/SUPPORT-TEAM.png

I think they scale down better than most image types.

how to use ?

can you have more than one RANK as REGISTERED USER
ie.
say 3 Registered Users under Manage ranks
and each would have a different RANK Image as dictated by their post count..

Registered Users image 1 post count 10
Registered Users image 2 post count 25
Registered Users image 2 post count 100

what is the method to have the post count dictate the image a regular user gets ?

Create a standard rank and assign a post number to it.
When they get to that post count their rank will automatically change.

Thanks Kev

so I can just create a standard rank name as POSTER

then do I have the multiples of that:

RANK POSTS IMAGE
POSTER 1 img1
POSTER 2 img2
POSTER 2 img3

or does the rank name need to unique
POSTER1
POSTER2
POSTER3

sorry for the non-understanding, trying hard tho :)

Give it a go :)

Off the top of my head I can't remember if the rank name can be the same for all of them. Try it and see.

thanks for the help again...

I make two ranks

rank post img
Poster1 1 img1
Poster2 5 img2

the Registered User rank is still in place..

it seems to just default to the Registered User image still... not paying attention to the Poster1 / 2 ranks

If you have a default rank for the registered users group that will override the post ranks. You need to turn that off and then they will get their post rank.

You can't have 2 ranks (unless someone has made an extension)

Ok good I set a user as ( No Special Rank Assigned ) and it uses the POSTER1/2 as the criteria..

how can I make sure every NEW registered user gets the ( No Special Rank Assigned ) assigned at the registration process ?

(old guy learning new tricks, it's great ) :)

Special ranks can only be assigned to individual users. As long as the registered users group doesn't have a default rank you'll be fine.
