Edits to "Your first category" and "Your first forum" are not saved

Post by researchguy007 »

This is one of those crazy basic things that somebody probably thought didn't need to be explained, but I'm not getting it. I have searched for help with this in the PDF guide and support sections.

The system seems to let me edit the text that displays as "Your first category", "Your first forum", and the description of the latter. When I click submit, there's a warning that says the second password doesn't match, and some other warning. But I'm not trying to change my password, and the warning doesn't seem to apply. The warning does NOT say the changes weren't saved. But every time I return to the homepage, the default names and descriptions have returned.

Forums can have a password to protect their access.
Your browser has spotted that field and is trying to put your password in there thinking it's a registration or login form.

Turn off autofill on your browser for a few minutes while you make the first couple of forums.

just check the form on the page and you will see that it has filled in a username and password where you don't need one.

delete those entries before you submit the form.

Thank you both! That enabled me to edit the forum name.

However, underneath that, it still says:

"Your first forum
Description of your first forum."

I thought I had found the editing screen for those elements, but I can't figure out how to get back there now.

Sorry to be such a noob!

manage forums
That is the name of the first forum and its description. Click the green cog icon next to it to edit.

I respectfully disagree. I was able to edit the text that is ABOVE those phrases by clearing the username and password as suggested earlier. But there's no way to change the category -- no field has that label. I went ahead and entered a description, but it was blank before when it should have said "Your first forum," if I were really looking in the right place to edit that element. I entered a brief description and saved it, but upon entering the forum, it still says ""Your first category" and "Your first forum".

then you are not doing it properly.

if you notice in the information about the description field it says that if you are working with a category the description field is not used.
the description is only for forums, not categories.

you have a category, inside that category you create forums with that category as the parent.
change the name of the default category,
submit.
now , click on the category name and you will see the default forum.
click the edit button( the green cog ) and change the name of the default forum,
put in a description. submit.
done.
this should help:

You change that text in manage forums and edit the default existing ones.
