Can admins communicate to all users via email?

Post by Jaypea »

Hi,

Have a few questions which are GDPR related really.

1) As an administrator would I be able to communicate via email with all users?
2) Can emails be scheduled, for example, can an email be scheduled for 1 years time?
3) Do accounts expire or become inactive?
4) Can I close accounts as an admin?
5) What happens to any threads once an account is closed either through expiry, user deletion or admin deletion?
6) As an administrator can I control how to deal with posts for accounts which no longer exists?

Thanks in advance,
Jaypea

1) Yes you can see the email address of everyone who has registered. There is a built in mass mail system or you can export the list of addresses from the database.
2) You would need to request an extension to do that
3) No. They only become inactive if the email address is changed by the user and then it needs reactivation.
4) Yes
5) You can choose to deactivate an account or delete it and delete all of the posts with it as well. If that person started the topic, the first reply will move up to the topic start.
6) It's your site, you can do what you like. But I believe if someone has requested deletion of all of their contributions, under GDPR you have to comply (but I might be wrong!)

The law in force in the Netherlands cannot be transferred to other EU countries. It is necessary to determine the implementation in your own country. This could sensibly be done by a lawyer.

My 2 cents: Whether an extension is in the CDB says nothing about its quality. It is more important to read the support topics for it. Better to avoid authors who do not answer support questions themselves, who do not update their stuff, and who do not fix bugs for years.
