Moved to new host - was unable to prepare before move

Post by TommyTreasure »

OS Ubuntu 20.04, Apache2.

I recently had to move my system to a new VPS host.

phpBB was working fine on the old host. The URL and domain is the same, only the ip address has changed.

All apache configuaration and web directories, and phpBB data directory were backed up via tar.gz. Sqlite3 is installed, and works fine with other applications on the new host.

I was unable to prepare phpBB (per FAQ) prior to the move, and am now getting the following when loading:

General Error
SQL ERROR [ sqlite3 ]

SQLite3 not found, is the extension installed? []

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

If i were to do a fresh install, could i drop in the old database? If not, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Does the new host use sqlite?
Perhaps it just a matter of editing the config.php if it's using mysqli

$dbms = 'phpbb\\db\\driver\\mysqli';
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

You need to install the sqlite extension in php, or ask your host to install it.

Sqlite != mysql, so changing that won't work, it is a complete different database system.

Yes, sqlite, sqlite3, as well as lsqlite3 are all installed on my system.

phpBB was working fine on the old host. As I had mentioned, I was unable to prepare phpBB for moving to a new host prior to losing access. Therefore, all I had was a tar.gz file of my entire webdoc (/var/www/html/[sites]), as well as my /etc/apache2 directories. I also had a tar.gz of the directory where the forum database was stored.

All of the users and groups are the same on the new host. Both hosts had the same OS (Ubuntu 20.04). All tar.gz files were created by the root user, and installed by root on the new system. All file ownership and permissions seem fine.

So I guess my main question would be -- can I install a fresh copy of phpBB over the existing installation, then just point to the data file?

It's not that the existing installation is large, only recently created, but replicating the structure, and use accounts would be very time consuming, and open to many errors on my part.

My sincere apologies.

In my case, it wasn't a "503", it was the dreaded PICNIC error. I had failed to install the proper php module in apache. All is working fine now.

Thanks for your response(s).
