Post by dent11 »

Hi,
I use phpBB 3.3.2. and i would like to keep some categories of the forum private.
For example: bla.. bla.. bla.. Login to view the rest of this post

what is the best solution for such a thing? Is there any extension or something for that?

The standard way would be to make whole forums private which you can do with groups.

Set the registered users, guests and bots groups all to No Access
Make a new group and give it standard access.
Put the people you want in to that group.

If you want them to see part of a post you'd need an extension. Just consider that some things that are private could potentially be read in those first few words which kind of defeats the point of it being private.

This does not bother me.

Your opinion about extensions. Which extension do you think is best for such a thing?

I don't think one exists for what you want so you would need to request one and hope someone makes it.

This extension allows snippets of the first and last post to be displayed when hovering over the topic title - viewtopic.php?f=676&t=2546551&p=1546541 ... #p15465411

I have been fighting for several days now. I can not.

I'm talking about the guests. I want them, to not be able to read specific categories of the forum, until they logged in.

example. I have 3 forums with 2 categories each. A:(1, 2)- B:(1, 2)- C:(1, 2)

I want the categories (1 and 2) of forum B, not be fully visible to guests until they logged in. like the photo I showed you.

My guests is read only access. I am going to Permissions tab - Group forum permissions - i choose guests - Advanced Permissions.

In the Actions Tab:

Can see forum. I turn it to No. The forum does not appear at all. I don't want that.
Can see topics I turn it to No. Nothing is happening
Can read forum I turn it to No. The forum categories appear and i can not click on them. I don't want that because nowhere
write log in to view the posts. it just seems like it doesn't work.

All the others tabs (post-content) is set to No, by default.
what is wrong?
