Since I banned a user,when I log out..

It says this forum has no forums. The banned user is in the guest group now,but I still want guests to view the board, How to fix this please? whoops..

Guests permissions are set to see the forum...baffled

There should only ever be one user in that group and that is ANONYMOUS.

Ahhh...found anonymous..moved to the guest group now its ok. baffling...ok...what would happen if I moved anonymous,(who is banned) to a banned group?

you need to unban the anonymous user. you have to have the anonymous user because that is what everyone has to use until they get logged in.
keep in mind that everyone is a guest until they login. even the auto login/remember me is just a guest until it logs you in.

The anonymous user isnt banned...I’ll try and explain...

I banned a user,banning his user name but keeping his posts. Now I have one guest and the anonymous user is the member I banned. His user name has changed to anonymous. Does that make any sense at all? If I delete the guest...I get the message about there being no forums..

To add...this is my first ever phpBB forum so I’m still learning. This is my first banning...

You just ban their username!

If you have deleted the user and retained their posts the user no longer exists and there is nobody to ban.

If you have banned the user then they are banned and all posts made by them are still visible unless you modify or delete them.

What exactly is it that you're trying to achieve?

Firstly..please don't shout at me. I thought I’d explained myself...obviously not. The user and their name is banned. The posts remain.

This is the part I’m having trouble explaining.....I now have ONE guest in groups...Also when I type in the user name anonymous...this shows as being the user I banned...it shows the registration date and post count. If I delete the guest..the board says no forums when I log out....

Let's just make sure you understand what the accounts and groups are and how they work.

Anonymous is the account used by everyone who is not logged in. It should be in the guest group only. You should not do anything to that account. If it is taken out of the guest group you get the message 'this board has no forums' because the visitors no longer have the permission of the guest group to see them.

When you ban someone, their account stays visible against their posts. You can see that here

Their account only changes to 'guest' if it's been deleted.

When you say 'when I type in the user name anonymous.' where ar you doing that?
If an account has been deleted, all of the posts they had get assigned to the anonymous account so that account can then have several posts to its name belonging to several users.

What about that would you like to change? It's normal behaviour.

Ahhh thank you. I didnt realise that..this is what was confusing me.

As for typing the user name anonymous..here. It shows as being the user I banned by his post count etc.

ok, yes if you look up the account of anonymous on that page it will now have all of the posts of the account you deleted.

If you wanted it in a group you need to make a group called Banned and put that account in to it. You could maybe set the group to no permissions for anything. Personally I think that's a bit of a waste of time. Just deactivate it and you;re done. That way they can never log in again and the posts all keep their username. Your other members don't need to know they've been banned really.
