Calendar

Post by Jackam »

I am trying to add a calendar to my 3.3.3 forum.
I have loaded several calendar extensions and enabled them, but no dice on any of them.
I keep seeing "PHP compiled with --enable-calendar" is needed....
what is that? How do I determine if I have that enabled?

I'd be happy to load the template if needed, but I think this is just something small that I am missing.

Your thoughts and input?

Thank you!
Jack

According to your printscreen Calendar is an extension.

And Calendar is put directly into the /ext directory which isn't the way an extension should be installed usually:
it's supposed to be yourboardroot/ext/vendorname/Calendar (the exact names should be clear from the extension file you downloaded).
Also, extension support should be sought with the author (the ectension topic where you downloaded it?).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Thank you Warmweer
I did a work around and created a BBcode that posts the calendar website from WebCalendar v1.3.0 that I installed on my hosting.

[cal][/cal]
<IFRAME SRC = "http://www.mydomain.con" width="900" height="700" >

Seems to work. I have to go see now if register users can see/use it.

still dog paddling but learning a lot about phpbb here.

Can't thank you enough!!!

Have a look at http://calendar.zoo-am-ring.de/viewtopi ... 4cb7d336ae
I use it with phpbb333 and php7.4. It does currently not work under php8.
Any questions will be answered there.

This, along with prior advise as to where extensions must be located in the root directory, found me with an installed and activated extension.
The only problem is... I don't see ANYTHING that looks like a calendar icon on my forum.

I tried to ask about it in the .de forum, but I cannot speak German.

Any thoughts to get me back in the game?

The extension has to be configured after installation > See ACP > Extensions tab > Calendar
Then it appears in the navbar.
I installed version 1.0.3 on a phpBB3.3.3 testboard with php7.4.3 and got quite a few Debug warnings with just about every configuration entry.
The board still functioned and Disable and Delete data seem to work.
AFAIAC this is NOT ready for use on a live board.

I'm looking for it... just don't see it! (but then again, I had to ask where the quote function was!!!)

Your prinscreen shows the compose a post area.
As I mentioned before: you have to configure the extension first before it shows up in the navbar

And the Extensions Manager you're showing is in the Customise tab.

Again, I don't see this extension as an RC nor as released on phpBB.com so support issues should be raised with the author.
And if I may be so blunt as to mention it, If you couldn't find the Quote button and the Extensions tab, I suggest not installing the extension as there are many debug warnings which may or may not break something (and from what I saw some features just plain didn't work).

I included that incase someone spotted something that I was missing (like an icon! :D )

Out of all the other extensions that I have tried out, this was the 1st one that used the Extension Manager.
I just naturally enabled it in the Customize tab and figured I was done. I had never even seen the EXT MANAGER before this. TY!!

I appreciate the bluntness. This is my first foray in into PHPBB and I am learning LOTS! I have broken things and then used a backup from the prior day to fix my blunders, but I learned both times where I went wrong.

As far as this extension... I just want ANY extension that has a Calendar. I went to the EM like you said and changed some settings (and then also created an event) but still MIA on the forum.

I'll plug away at it some more tomorrow.

for one thing, make sure you are always testing using the standard style prosilver.
all extensions have to work with prosilver but they may or may not work with any other styles.

I only had a limited tryout with that extension and I can't remember whether there's a permission setting somewhere (I do "think" there is).
