I need to temporarily 'hide' several threads but maintain their posts and users, and looking for 'hide posts' showed me lots of results for 'soft delete' which seems to be a perfect tool for the job. I've never seen the soft delete option on our board which is currently running 3.2.1 for a variety of reasons, and for the life of me I can't see how I might find out whether or not this ability is on this board or how to enable it. I deleted one of our threads and wasn't offered a 'soft' option, and I'm logged in as root admin. Can someone tell how I can check for it please?
Being an admin gives you access to the ACP, period. There is no set of Super privileges. The ability to soft delete is a group forum permission. IF soft delete exists in 3.2.1, it will be a permission there, which you can give to the Administrator's group for such forums as you choose.
The ability to restore soft deleted posts is a Moderator permission - "Can restore soft deleted posts".

What you're looking for is the Global Moderation permissions Can soft delete posts Moderators, who have the approve posts permission, can restore soft deleted posts.
If the total permission is YES ad you delete a post you will be presented with
Delete post
Are you sure you want to delete this post?
Delete permanently:
Reason for deletion: The specified reason for deletion will be visible to moderators.
Don't tick the checkbox for permanent deletion (or it will be permanently deleted).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Many thanks, found it now. Would never have spotted where to enable it without the assistance - there are sooooooo many places to enable permissions. I see things and think 'oh I'll go back to that later' and never ever find it again
EDIT: How do I restore a complete thread, as opposed to hundreds of individual posts?

Don't softdelete it in the first place.
Move the topic to forum which only you can see, and move it back when the time is right.
