If you believe there’s a bug you should report it in the tracker.

I'll believe it's a bug if someone can confirm. Don't want to waste my limited time.

Appears to be a bug. I am using smtp and getting bounces from gmail as well.

Interestingly I am seeing registrations from gmail. These bounces come from alerts from updated posts.

we had terrible gmail problems during the registration process. Bounced like a super ball. Was on https certificates I think. Matter of fact continual Gmail problems forced us to upgrade a forum that ran well for 15 years from 2.xx to 3.3.3 now 3.3.5.

Any news on this issue? Seems that I'm having the same problems. Tried using SMTP, but that seems te be blocked by the webhost, although they say it isn't blocked :roll:

Code: Select all

    host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [2a00:1450:4013:c08::1b]
    SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data:
    550-5.7.1 [2a02:348:5e6:1::88bf 13] Messages with multiple addresses in
    550 5.7.1 From: header are not accepted. i11si16916603ejw.240 - gsmtp
Running 3.3.4 now with php8. Is this fixed in 3.3.5?

Are you certain this needs fixing in phpBB? Googling there are dozens of similar cases including incorrectly formatted ‘from’ fields from multitudes of different sources using Gmail which makes me think Gmail has the issue not phpBB, postfix, Thunderbird, Office365 + several different bulletin board companies etc. Have you tried (just for testing purposes) using PHP sendmail using an email address supplied by your host?

This is a problem under observation, subject to code changes still to be approved.

I'm using PHP sendmail and also using the address supplied by my host, and the error is the one I posted. So this isn't the solution.
I wanted to try SMTP, but for some reason its blocked, tries many different mailservers, including my own one, still getting connection refused and the logging from my mailserver says noting about an incoming connection.

Is this PHP version related maybe? I think that the webhost has changed the php version from 7 to 8 without telling me. I didn't have this problem 2 months ago, and never changed anything on the board.

I can now confirm that it is a PHP version issue, the webhost activated PHP7.x (was PHP8) and registration messages are now getting delivered to gmail and not bouncing.
