migrating from v. 3.0.11 to the latest version v. 3.3.4

Post by avalkauskas »

Hi, we had our forum setup almost a decade ago on version 3.0.11 and our hosting company will be upgrading PHP to the latest version and discontinuing support for older PHP installs. I have a strong feeling this may break our phpBB installation. Looking at the dev work on phpBB since then, I'm not sure if there is a direct upgrade from this old version we have installed to the latest? I would rather not lose all of the posts made since 2012. Ideally the current version could have some upgrade path. If not, is there a way to get the backup to work on a fresh installation of phpBB, as in restoring the DB and posts? Thanks in advance.

You can upgrade going back to phpbb2. ;) Documentation is here:

If you do not have any mods installed it's pretty straight forward. One thing to note is you will need php7.1.3 or better to run upgrade.
