Spammers using Location for URLs - How to stop?

Post by dfatp »

Hi,

How can I prevent the location from showing or prevent URL's from being used in the location field?

Also is there a way to allow certain people to post URL's in a message while others can't?

If you are referring to the Location CPF then change the field validation to something more appropriate.

It's better to stop them registering in the first place.

I assume it is the users with URLs in the Location CPF that are being spammed?

Yes, if you look at the right at my profile the location field I put a message in there what they are using.

Also, is there a way I can ban URL's but allow myself to still post them?

Change the field validation setting from the default Any character to Alphanumeric and spacers. That will allow London UK, but not london.uk.co, for example. It will also prevent hot email addresses.

What antispam are you using on the registration page? They'll just put it somewhere else if they can't put it there.

Where is that, I found one for the "user name" under "User registration settings" but not for all fields?

Please supply a link to the board so we can see what’s happening and offer you a solution.
