trouble updating from 3.2.7 to 3.3.4

Post by The Baron »

HI, please could somebody advise? I have downloaded the zip file phpBB-3.2.7_to_3.3.4

I extracted it and uploaded the install/ and vendor/ folders to my phpbb3 folder using my FTP program. It has taken my forum offline, as expected.

But when I go to the install directory using my browser - http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/phpBB3/install/ - if I click on the Update button, it just takes me back to the top of the page. I cannot progress any further.

See Upgrading from 3.2 to 3.3 for the recommended upgrade method.

I'm afraid that didn't work. I did everything up to step 12.

Now my http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/phpBB3/install/ page gives me this:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I have no idea where the server error log is. I just copied and pasted the message.

There should be a link to it from your hosting control panel - if not ask your hosts how to access it.

Instead of looking for more info about the error message, follow the link provided by Mick (to the letter). Make sure you php version is suited for phpBB 3.3.4)

What you tried is probably an autoupdate, which is nowhere recommended for upgrading.

Use the full package only, and in /store, remove io_lock.lock and install_config.php (and any migrationsxxx if present)
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I already did. I followed steps 1-12 which led me to this.

I didn't do an auto-update. I have explained all of the steps I have tried.

I'm now waiting for Fast Hosts support to get back to me.

How can I find out if my php version is suited for 3.3.4, please?

I removed io_lock.lock and all of the migrationsxxx log files from the /store folder, but I'm still getting the same error page.

Unless the system has changed (or the link Mick provided leads you to a different page than the one I'm getting) since I last read it (which was yesterday evening) it seems you did NOT follow the instructions:

I'm not sure why you're not following this?

The first thing I did was download the zip file phpBB-3.2.7_to_3.3.4.

I extracted it and uploaded the install/ and vendor/ folders to my phpbb3 folder using my FTP program.

It didn't work, so I posted this request for support.

Mick then sent me the link. I followed steps 1-12 to the letter, and it created the current worse problem.

david63 then advised me to contact my hosts for access to the server error log. Which I have done.

I am waiting for them to reply.

I have since followed your advice and deleted the io_lock.lock and migrationsxxx files from my /store folder, which hasn't changed anything.

REQUIREMENTS >>> php 7.1.3 at the mimimum

if there are no migrationsxxx, they can't be removed so it's not a problem (actually even if there are , it's not a problem, but it's nice to keep directories devoid of unnecessary files).

saw your edit just now, and so there were migrationsxxx (and you now deleted them).

yes, I read that and immediately suspected that you didn't follow the instructions: see point 7

I feel like we're going in circles. I tried the .zip file phpBB-3.2.7_to_3.3.4. update BEFORE I spoke with Mick.

He then sent the link to https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade32/

I then tried starting over. I downloaded the full 3.3.4 package.

I followed the instructions to the letter. I got as far as step 12.

I hope that's clear.

OK, that wasn't obvious to me. Now it is.
What's the php version your domain is on? (since the domain works, but not the/phpBB3)
