I didn't do any of that.... Maybe, that's why the extension from david36 bulk add users is not workingthecoalman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:27 am If you want to work within the limits of phpBB.
First go to ACP >> Users & Groups tab >> Manage Groups link on left >> Click settings link next to registered uers
Make sure the registered users group has the setting "Group able to receive private messages:" set to yes.
--------------------------------------------
Next step, ACP >> Permissions tab >> Group permissions link on left >> Select Global Moderators
Apply a role that allows them to send private messages to groups. If you only want to apply this to one individual create custom group, add them to group and give that group permissions to send PM's to groups.
Do not use the advanced permission to set permissions here, always apply roles. If no role fits your needs edit one or create a new one. The benefit of using roles is you can just edit the role to make changes anywhere it is applied.
--------------------------------------------
Anyone that has this permission applied should now be able to send a PM to every registered user which includes everyone. When they open the compose PM panel you can just add the group.
Now, I did all the above and when I log in as Administrator, I am faced with the following:thecoalman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:27 am If you want to work within the limits of phpBB.

I logged in as AlexE and it seems you've got all forums set up with a password, which it something completely different than having to login again (as the password provided allows me to log in, and stay logged in, but not to enter the forums). Basically the only difference between a guest and AlexE is that AlexE is member of the Newly Registered Users group and of the Registered Users group but there's no way he can leave the NRU since he can't post anywhere.
Being an Administrator does not give you any more rights than any Registered user to see, post in, and edit, etc. It gives you permission to access the ACP for whatever purposes you have permissions to do. Had you read the KB article I I LINKED HERE you would have known that.alex4orly wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:50 pm

There's no problem with staying logged in: if you do have problems, then as I mentioned, it's probably your browser settings.
Which is obviously WRONG - it is missing the url parameters, it does that both in Chrome and in FireFox
Yes, I tried to assign permissions to the administrator as well but obviously not the right way. I am starting to think that one of the extensions I installed, New user default settings. I have no idea where else to lookstevemaury wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 3:52 pmBeing an Administrator does not give you any more rights than any Registered user to see, post in, and edit, etc. It gives you permission to access the ACP for whatever purposes you have permissions to do. You can use the Permissions masks to see what the permissions of any user are. That is covered in both the documentation and the KB article.
Hello again, warmweer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 9:15 pm It's been mentioned before but still... Use the permission mask on a user (e.g. your admin account) so see how total permissions are constructed.
YES overrides a NO, but is in turn overriden by a NEVER (we'll leave the (very) few exceptions out of the discussion at this moment).
The permission mask is the perfect tool for tracing how user/group and/or user/group-forum permissions influence the end result.
If you can set up a personal webserver on your PC, then use QuickInstall to get a ready made board within 10 minutes to experiment with.
I'm short on time ATM (taking a week holiday starting this evening) but perhaps this evening (in about 10h) or tomorrow (after that - no internet access).
