Sort newest reply to top of topic

Post by urzh »

On a forum (or all my forums), I want replies to a topic to appear at the top (ascending) rather then descending. I want this for all users and guests. Is this possible without an extension? Thanks

You can use this extension (viewtopic.php?f=456&t=2428976) to set that as a default for new users but there is nothing to stop a user changing any of the options to whatever they want them to be.

Maybe I should have specified a little more now - I only care for guests visiting my site to see most recent replies at the top. Can this be done without touching registered users settings?

manage users
anonymous
Then choose preferences from the drop list on the right of the next page
At the very bottom of the list you can set the preferences for how they see they forums.

When I change Display post order direction: to Descending it works, however the original post topic is at the bottom which I want that to be at the top.

Let me see if I have got this right.

You want the first post in a topic to be followed by the last reply and then all subsequent replies but only for guests.

If that is so then you will need an extension but in my opinion that does not make sense as you are not then able to follow a discussion in the topic.

Right. I want it this way because once someone visits the topic (via google search), they automatically see the original post and then the latest reply beneath it. One of my boards functions best this way for guests.

I think that I have seen an extension that puts the first post on every page - try searching for it.

Perhaps that extension along with the settings Kev posted above will do what you want - if not then you are going to need an extension creating so either post in the extensions request forum or if you are willing to pay then post in the Wanted forum
