Images rotated on there sides when uploaded ?

Post by mrix2000 »

Hi all, I have done a search and have come up with some old topics that explain the issue my forum is having whereby when images are uploaded from a iPhone, iPad they rotate sideways, the strange thing is today someone had the same issue uploading from a Samsung device.
Has there been any work arounds for this issue ?
Thanks all

I can't find any settings in phpBB3 3.3.5 to fix this, I also use a "Crappy IPhone" ....
When the next person who tells me to buy an android phone, i will personally place my IPhone in there place where the sun will not shine, as for android thats new to me!

let me be wrong...

I have an extension in development.
[3.2][3.3][ALPHA] EXIR - Exif Image Rotation 📸 - also refer to my site in case.

This can be a little difficult to explain but for the moment lets assume the digital files created by a digital camera are exactly the same as a negative roll of film. If you turn your film camera sideways the negative it's sideways relative to the other negatives. When you get your pictures back you need to physically rotate it.

The way the digital file differs is EXIF data that is added that says this end up. Anything displaying the image that supports EXIF which is pretty much everything these days will rotate the raw file to the correct orientation.

The issue with phpBB is that the EXIF data is stripped either when it's resized by plupload and/or during thumbnail creation depending on the circumstances. There is no longer a this end up flag resulting in a sideways picture.

Maybe you can leave your users rotate files after upload:
https://github.com/axew3/phpBB-image-at ... n/releases

example how it work is here:
https://www.axew3.com/w3/forums/viewtop ... =20&t=1639

but maybe it is not what you are searching for

I can recommend that extension of axe70. Works fine with phpBB 3.3.5 and php 7.4
Users are happy that they can rotate their pics with some mouseclicks.

It’s a lot of in-depth work needed for phpBB to work this out with in the core of the upload system.

I tried the first EXT in the topic and could not install it even though I appeared to have all the necessary it required :?
I did try the second EXT which gives the users their own option to rotate the images after upload or while editing which worked great 8-)
Unfortunately even though it does work it does not display correctly and the rotate image is too close to the image info :? image below

To receive extension support please visit our Extensions Database and post in the specific extension's designated support area. The link to the support area for each released extension is also available in the first post of each released extension listed in the [3.3.x] Extension Database Releases forum. For extensions still in development (not recommended for a live board) support is in that extensions's topic in the Extensions in Development forum.
